Pumpkin Patches

Within the next couple weeks pumpkin patches will be opening all over Central Illinois.

The Great Pumpkin Patch is the mother of all pumpkin patches near Arthur. Definitely worth the drive for a huge variety of pumkins and gourds. This is a great family day in the country. It's pretty packed on the weekends, so if you can hit it on a beautiful weekday you will really enjoy yourself.

Gail's Pumpkin Patch is east of Lincoln and opens Sept 15th. The Berry Patch is more than just a pumpkin patch, you can get berries there during the summer too. The Berry Patch is off Rte 54 on Lynn Road near Buffalo Hart in Sangamon County. Pumpkin Works near Paris is outside my usual territory, but it has 11 mazes! Black Bart's Pumpkin Patch outside Warrensburg opens later in the season, not until Sept 21st, and it includes a haunted house. Black Bart's is located between Warrensburg and Latham off Rt. 121.

We love pumpkin time around here. Last year we went to Curtis Orchard and really enjoyed it. Thanks for giving us some alternatives, because in my opinion, you can never have enough pumpkins.

Apparently Black Bart's has fried pumpkin blossom sandwiches. What won't people fry in Illinois?

Our family loves us some Curtis Orchard.

I haven't been to Curtis Orchard. Not for any particular reason, but I like to be in the country when I'm doing "country" things. I'm going to try the one near Downs before I travel very far for one this year. I have to say I am intrigued by fried pumpkin blossoms.

Curtis Orchard probably was in the country at one time. It's actually kind of a relief to be in the pumpkin patch after driving past all the McMansions. I then pretend I'm really out in the country.

Which pumpkin patch would be he best to take three girls ages 4-11? I'm thinking either Warrensburg or Arthur?

If you want to buy a giant pumpkin, then Warrensburg has lots to choose from but fewer activities. Arthur has a lot more activities plus you get a taste of Amish life.

My family and I visited a very sincere pumpkin patch last weekend. I
think it deserves a spot on your pages. No entry charge, no corn
mazes, just pumpkins. Lots of them, not too expensive (especially
since the really BIG ones are half price now), ranging from 25 cents on up.
